Problem Note 50286: Merging all levels into one group might place all observations into the _MISSING_ group, a variable Value less than "missing" is displayed
The Interactive Grouping node in SAS® Enterprise Miner™ enables you to interactively form groups of values. However, observations might be incorrectly assigned to the _MISSING_ group. The problem occurs if you follow this sequence of steps.
- In the Groupings tab of the Interactive Grouping window, select all non-missing values for a
variable, right-click, and select Merge Bin.
- Click Close and Yes to save changes.
- Attach and run a subsequent node, such as a Scorecard node.
- After the subsequent node runs, go to the Interactive Grouping node, change the Use Frozen
Groupings property from No to Yes.
- Perform any action that causes the Interactive Grouping node to re-run. Example: change a
property.
When the Interactive Grouping node re-runs, all observations for the variable are incorrectly re-assigned to the _MISSING_ group.
There is no workaround.
There are no errors or warnings. However, symptoms such as the following might occur:
- "<variable name> < ." is displayed in the Value column in the Interactive
Grouping window, even though it is not possible for values to be less than
"missing"
- there is no way to split the group that was formed during the re-assignment to the _MISSING_
group
- variables that should be on the scorecard are missing
To avoid the problem, do not select Merge Bin in the first step above. Instead, select Group= or New Group to specify your grouping choice.
